The Institute for Instructional Technology (IIT) is a faculty-centered initiative
co-sponsored by the Office of Information Technology
(OIT) and the Center
for Teaching Excellence. It provides skills training and peer mentoring to
faculty wishing to explore the ways in which technology can be integrated into
their course curricula. This joint enterprise exploits the talents and resources
of both campus units by providing hands-on, interactive training, instructional
design guidance, product development advice, and pedagogical discussion and debate.
The IIT training modules focus on a variety of technological applications
through the presentation of hands-on learning modules. Faculty Development Workshops
are additionally offered in which participants can work on a specific course
with the assistance of technology expert staff members. Our goal is to guide
participants in the thought processes and skills needed to undertake a technological
modification or transformation of the instructional materials and learning environments
they create for their students.
The course catalog and registration for IIT modules is located at the Training@Maryland website (www.training.umd.edu).
Faculty, Instructor and Teaching Assistant Registration:
Register for IIT classes at the Training@Maryland site (click on the Registration link below) by using your University Directory ID and Directory Password to log on. The first time you register for a class at this site, you will be presented with a User Profile. Please check your data on the Web form. Where the form prompts you for a payment type, please select "Self Pay" (at this time there is no "No Charge" option on the registration form). Rest assured that there is NO CHARGE for participating in IIT training. Scroll to the bottom of the profile to submit it and you will be cleared to register for the classes of your choice.
Other UM Employee Registration:
Other members of the UM instructional support staff community can attend IIT classes on a "Space Available" basis and by special request. Such participants should establish a Training@Maryland account by clicking on the Registration link below. Once at the site, select the "log on" tab at the top of the Web page, provide your University Directory ID and Password, and then create a User Profile, as prompted. You must provide the name and e-mail of your supervisor or department chair in the required fields. Select the "Self Pay" payment option, then submit the form. You can then contact the program coordinator to request admission to the class(es) of your choice at 301-405-2945.
